How the average price is calculated
Average price = total cost ÷ total shares. Example: 10 shares at $100 and 10 shares at $80 → $1,800 ÷ 20 = $90.
Shares needed for a target average = shares × (current average − target) ÷ (target − current price). To bring an average of $100 on 10 shares down to $85 at a price of $80, you need 10 × 15 ÷ 5 = 30 more shares. Buying more of a falling stock increases your risk; this is a calculation, not a recommendation.
